ahoy there mateys! i am on a ship headed for calmer waters!
haha well i am having a good time. in scotland. mike is here, we are at the u of edinburgh sticky brown comp lab. mmm. i will be posting my itinerary, wordy as it may seem, upon arrival. but here is the brief synopsis -
tues i had lunch w/ terie, barry, larry (peter) and shane. then went w/ my dad and his friend, alfredo fettucinni (ali) to this cute little persian cafe in westwood. pretty swank. the pigeons there even looked better than the ones downtown! grrr.
then to LAX where i sat and read about the ancient greek olympics for a few hours before my 10 hour flight. on the plane i sat next to some old guy who was pretty hungry for conversation. unfortunately i wanted to listen to my music and sleep (and i didn't sleep much mind you). they served steak and SALMON and the old guy and i had our own little bottles of chardoneaux. i watched joyride. well not really on purpose. ridiculous film if i ever saw one. but what else was i supposed to do?
then i realized i hadn't even reclined my chair. that helped me to sleep for like two hours. and this was a night flight. so i basically missed my sleep night.
then came breakfast. special K w/ banananannanannanas. i recommend flying american airlines if you are going overseas.
anyways i get to london (heathrow) just before 1pm wednesday. and my flight to edin is at 4! i am used to my flights coming in late so i booked a wait and it was EARLY. grr. so i walked around and some duty free guy (they call them tax free here) gave me some black vodka and sprite. good stuff. got me through the next two hours. i met lots of cool people at the airport who were working there. it seems like there is less of a stigma against conversing w/ strangers here. or maybe i looked lost. i took a little nap listening to my music until i realized i was drooling on myself. i hope it wasn't noticable. i was so from all the plane food i didn't want to eat any of the airport stuff. on the way back maybe. i will be pcking up some bottles of DUTY FREE stuff on the way back yo.
then the british air flight to edin. now that was silly. we had four flight attendants for a little flight and they were all giggly girls who didn't seem to notice they had PASSENGERS to tend to. but i got this interesting sandwich from them. ham and cheese and - pickles? on fruity wheaty loaf. well pickles meant relish. i actually liked it a lot. even though it was a strange idea. they WERE sweet pickles.
finally i get there and right away MIKE found me. yay! we got my luggage from the customs people who didn't seem too concerned w/ national security, and then we took this funky little cab that drove us all the way to his flat on the wrong side of the road. the weather was gloomy and i was beat tired but i was still excited. just to be there and i was really glad to see him.
we took an evening tour soon after we got back. it was windy and rainy but the city is really great. i love old buildings, and the streets are all on hills. eventually we went back to hang out w/ his roommates and ordered pizza. we had two mediums, and mike ate a whole pizza. and then some. he has four roommates, and they all seem pretty cool. they have four tv channels. none come in very well. but some of the shows are pretty funny. like father ted. mike's favorite is this bank commercial to the tune of angel of the morning, where this 'hot' chick is flying on a giant swan.... very unusual.
the next day, thurs, mike had class. so i got to sleeep in until he got back. then to the museum, which was just across the street (even though mike had never BEEN there). we saw oceans 11, then we did more walking, and went to dinner at this cute little candle lit italian place w/ yummy garlic pizza bread, and i drank TANGO (not mango). then we went w/ dom and two of mike's flatmate's to medina's, this cute underground pub w/ pillows everywhere and hideaways in the back. it was pretty fun even though the music was not to everyone's liking.
friday was lots of walking. we woke up PRETTY late and went all the way to TGIFridays. and it was damn windy. but the food was good, and i love that jack daniel's sauce on my fries and everything else. i tried IRNBRU (ironbrew) which tastes to me like big red, one of my favorite american CARBO BEVs. when we got back i was tired. again. (there IS an 8 hour time diff) so i took a nap while mike was at the comp lab. when i woke up we all went out to explore some new pubs. i can't remember all the names. nichol edwards was ok, but alittle too crowded. mike says it's new and it used to be the best (it's haunted!) but they block off sections now and raised prices. (pub prices generally go up on the weekends here). tron seemed fun but we didnt have the discount card so it was vetoed. we checked out various others but didn't go into them all. eh1 was cool, great music. but we were restless and off soon after. we went to some restaurant bar place with car parts all over the walls and had a pitcher of redbull and vodka to split three ways. the night ended with chips and gravy. mmm.
today is saturday, and we got up reasonably early today. first too the baked potato shop where we had some huge stuffed potatoes and orangina, and we witnessed a bloody crime. it was gross, we went over later and saw blood on the sidewalk. mike is a key witness. hehe. then we went to the dungeon tour. it was pretty silly but i had fun anyways, i like looking at torture devices. but the tour itself was damn cheesey. and it was trying so hard to be scary the lighting wasn't the best when it came to looking at devices. i did get my fair share of scare. ? wow. then we walked all the way here.
and tonight we are planning a house party, american style. no one parties at home here, all at pubs. we are gonna get some chocolate marshamallow pizza and we'll play drinking games and then go out to some other clubs (espionage, etc). hopefully tonight will also end in chips.
ok enough for now. i miss you all!

btw, check out the orange house pics

jose put up the pics for shane-gri-la!!! (try kyle's link if your connection is fast)
very interesting. but may take a while to load. you, too, can EXPERIENCE CAT MODE.
i am going to take my favorites and make a 'page'.
i went to the ballroom of commerce casino tonight to attend a huge persian new years banquet meal w/ my dad and some of his friends and relatives. when i got there there was a man singing your basic traditional persian dance party music and of course one of the members was playing the keyboard that you wear like a guitar. shane says it's called "the ridiculous" but somehow i don't believe him... anyways, our table was covered w/ appetizers, turkish/greek/persian style. middle eastern good stuff. grape leaf wrapped stuff, olives (mmm), taboule, cucumber yogurt, hummos, breads, cheeses, baklava, etc. fruits. AND THEN came the dinner, a sampler of chicken and steak and rices and vegetables. my favorite is shirin polo, this basmati white rice w/ some candied oranges and nuts. i call it candy rice, good stuff. my dad MADE me drink a white russian cuz the casino was comping this whole deal (we got the best table in the house, right in front and center viewing the stage, and it was for eleven), so i gave in and had ONE. the dancers were more like showgirls than the classical belly dancers i'm used to but oh well it was pretty cool. i always feel underdressed at these things cuz persians wear a lot of makeup and fancy black clothes and perfume. eh. i stick out like a sore thumb. and i'm pretty PASTEY WHITE and all. but i got the hips and i know how to shake em.
?
i was pretty sad earlier but i think it's cuz i hadn't eaten since 8pm last night (that pre-party pizza mmm). i really need to make sure to eat regularly so i don't get bummed out about stupid stuff. i was really sad that no one could come to the new years banquet and experience all the fun and excitement. i like sharing fun stuff w/ people, its' just better. but i guess most people wouldn't understand what was going on cuz they don't go to these things every year. maybe for mehregan next year (harvest festival) i can get a group together.... hmm.. maybe : )
i'll be in scotland in like two days. and i'm gonna get a nice big hug from somebody special. very exciting.
will somebody come help me and shane eat these cadbury mini and creme eggs, we are never going to finish them.

isn't it romantic, merely to be young on such a night as this... isn't it romantic.... every note that's sung is like a lover's kiss...

wow. i am really scared about tomorrow. i have an appointment at usc hospital. they are going to give me an ultrasound. to see what is wrong w/ me inside. all technical - almost like it is serious. i'm tired of all these tests but this should be the last one - i hope.
one of my pals added a bunch of people to my aim. and one just happened to have a blog site in his info. so i started reading that. it's amazing how many of these are out there. i am glad i have one, makes me less lonely. anyways i started reading his blog and following links - yes i read all yours too! and today i started messaging the guy and he was pretty cool until he found out who i am. maybe i'm just paranoid. probably. i need to work on my self esteem.
note to self i guess.
i'm at shane's cuz my connection is down (again) and i guess listening to hood is kinda bringing me down to some leveled melancholy. weird.
naptime.

partay! i would like to call it a success. i had fun, everyone who threw it had fun. that's all that REALLY matters. but i think a lot of other people enjoyed themselves - mostly thanks to our wonderful bartenders, dan o and phil - and thanks to the hundreds of dollars we put into it (yay terie!). i was happy even before anyone showed up cuz the lights and music were fun, and everyone was excited. dancing and jumping around! i love putting up colored lights. and i made the bathroom even look nice w/ a christmas strand. mmm apple-tinis (with REAL apple slices), gin and tonic. the guy/girl ratio was pretty good from the start and stayed good for most of the night. jose got a pic of the RA on duty - w/ a drink in hand - so later on he wasn't about to call DPS and was very patient with us in the long haul. well the pic wasn't really any leverage, he was cool from the start. jeff showed up to assist us in a very out of tune but exciting rendition of bohemian rhapsody. shane made it to cat mode. shaun became evil shane and threatened derek - who hid in the hall with his toy, afraid to go outside. then shaun bitched at the guy who came out to shut him up. beligerence!! : ) peter made out w/ brandy - the lizard! i almost made out w/ gabe's shirt - he had nautica all over it! all three dans showed up. we had 200+ red cups - all used up by the end of the night. i was trying to be RESPONSIBLE so i wasn't drinking too much but i was hyper and having a blast anyways. i got LOTS of hugs and it helped relieve my need for affection temporarily. then at about 2 things slowed down and i got my drink on. i had a lot of catching up to do but it didnt' take me long.
you know your party is making a scene when the basketball team shows up - and they did. the night ended without a hitch and i went to sleep at about 5:30, poor shane on my couch (shaun and terie had moved into his place). we have a lot of beer left so if you are having a party, invite us and we'll bring them!
there will be a link up as soon as we upload the party pics jose took! SCANDAL!
i was listening to some kscr show that starts at noon on sundays - it was pretty good, chill indie stuff, and they even had an 80s flashback! and now some rock show w/ these two girls who are falling asleep at the wheel - but they are good sports about it. obviously i have some homework i am hiding from. and tonight is a persian new years celebration at commerce casino. so i will be going to get some free fooooood!! hopefully some chernoble-sized chocolate-covered strawberries like last year.
and today i got a call from mike - he saw the beast of loch ness and lived to tell his story - happy fourth anniversary!!! (part 2!)
and i'd like to give a shout out to my homies in the back seat - yo - word!
